“I cannot be more grateful to the luck I had on being so clear and sure about my path in life. ”
You in one word –
Seeker
On you –
I was born in Grosseto, a small town in Tuscany, and I grew up in Milano, home is in NYC
I think one of my first memory is me at 3 years old at the kinder/garden answering a question to a teacher, ‘’ Michela what do you want to become when you grow up ? ‘’ -
- “ a paintress ‘’
This memory works for me as a formative place, I do remember some color, greenish and violet, a fence, a garden, and just me formulating these 2 words. Even though it is a very delicate and almost trembling image at the same time it is incredibly strong, and I cannot be more grateful to the luck I had on being so clear and sure about my path in life.
I am an artist
my inspirations motivates me, mostly my inspirations come from my intimacy in relations to the outside environment such as people’s energy, nature, everything that provokes a certain personal experience.
In my work I tend to use a symbolic language, therefore I research a lot on the symbolic field, regardless cultures, religions, country, symbols are always channeling a mysterious reality that connect me to my intimacy .
“ My inspirations motivates me, mostly my inspirations come from my intimacy in relations to the outside environment such as people’s energy, nature, everything that provokes a certain personal experience. ”
On a moment that shaped you-
When I was little, this memory goes back at me at 7 years old, second grade, I loved to draw so much ...
during a drawing class the teacher show my draw to the entire class and says ‘’ this is very bad, can you all see how bad it is ? ‘’ and then she tore apart the paper and throw it in the trash bin.
Still now I can remember very well that scene, but at the same time I cannot recall the emotion, it was a miracle ! I guess the lesson was ; not to take it personally, in any situation otherwise I wouldn’t be what I am now.
The funny thing is that I bumped into that teacher few years ago in Milan, she asked me what have I become in my life, so I told her that I was an artist working and living in NYC, she looked at me with a luminous smile and told me “oh Michela you are such a talented artist I always knew you were going to be special”
On your mantra-
Each step is now.
This is to remind me that every part of the process is crucial but most of it is to be present during the process this is not just pertaining the artistic process is the mantra to live our life
On the next 12 months-
I am very excited for the next group show at Pen&Brush this coming Fall : Overlap ; Life Tapestries. Pen&Brush is the perfect example of what real support and endurance means in the life of a woman artist ! Painting the mural graffiti Goddesses for the show Future is Goddess was a very important moment in my career and in my personal life having had the chance to express a creative vision in an extremely suitable context finding a total support does not happen every day! mutual trust that builds the solid foundation for a change in society.
On a personal level, Pen&Brush gave me the necessary trust that sustains me in the most difficult moments. Meeting them was for sure one of the pivotal moment of my life. It is exciting to be part of this especially now that is the 125th anniversary year of the foundation !
Also, I am very much looking forward to this collaboration with Article 22 and Pen&Brush. What a perfect connection, Article22, a women run, thoughtful company and with Pen&Brush a non profit gallery fighting for gender equity
On life -
My natural act of love is enthusiasm, keeping the heart chakra open , Sharing , Feeling inspired and wanting to inspire, Cuddling my cat, actually I would cuddle every cat and trying to be more tolerant.
On ARTICLE22 -
When I first heard of ARTICLE22 I was very moved by the story of the noodle soup spoon, I never heard anything like that before and I thought wow these women are really nurturing this legacy from a heavy karmic seed blossoming into a beautiful flower. The sustainability ,the trade, the interdependency factor, the look , I think it’s almost the perfect metaphor of the Lotus flower.
I am drawn to the Bohdi leaf earrings, I was at Bodhgaya 10 years ago, under the Bodhi tree, I collected a lot of leafs, they are inside my favorite books, is nice when I randomly open them to read some pages and I found the dry beautiful leaf.
